Usually Sundarijal, which is about an hour's drive from Kathmandu, serves as the beginning point of the Helambu Trek. From there, the trail gradually climbs past verdant forests, terraced fields, and quaint towns, letting you get to know the locals and experience their way of life. You pass through stunning scenery on the hike, including bamboo and rhododendron woods, flowing waterfalls, and expansive mountain views. As you go through traditional settlements like Chisapani, Kutumsang, Tharepati, Tarkeghyang, and Sermathang, you'll get to see how the Hyolmo people live and learn about their distinctive traditions.
The chance to visit various historic monasteries, such as the Melamchi Ghyang Monastery and Tarkeghyang Monastery, where you may observe the religious customs and ceremonies of the Tibetan people, is one of the highlights of the Helambu Trek.

Day 1
Arrival at Kathmandu
When you arrive at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from our organization will greet you and wish you a warm welcome to Nepal before driving you to the hotel you've reserved. After the check-in process is complete, you can unwind and sleep at the hotel. In order to familiarize you with some good restaurants, ATMs, money changers, and other vital places you might need during your stay in Thamel, the office staff will later accompany you on a brief tour of the neighborhood.
Day 2
Drive to Sundarijal (1,385m / 4,545ft), Trek to Chisapani (2,295m / 7,655ft)
We will drive for an hour to get to Sundrijal after an early-morning breakfast. Our hike begins in Sundarijal, which is located in the foothills of the Kathmandu valley. We set off for Chisapani from Sundarijal, and it will take us four to five hours to get there. We continue on the trail till we reach Shivapuri National Park. You can reach Mulkhara, a Tamang town, by climbing over a ridge that is 600 meters above Sudarijal and around 1,895 meters high.
We'll stop for a quick snack at one of Mulkhara's tea and snack shops. Then we go to stroll over the ridge and through a thick woodland covered in rhododendrons and oaks. Rhododendrons in a variety of colors will be in bloom in the woodland in the spring. In order to go to Chisapani, we trek through the forest.
Day 3
Trek from Chisapani (2,295m / 7,655ft) to Khutumsang (2,470m / 8,250ft)
We get up early in order to see the spectacular sunrise from the Chisapani viewpoint. You will never forget the sight of the Himalayan range being illuminated by the rising sun. We leave for Kutumsang after breakfast, which takes five to six hours. You may take in the breathtaking vistas of the Langtang mountains as you trek beside several meadows and agricultural areas. We then leave the ridge and arrive in Pathi Bhanjyang, a small yet charming town. We continue our ascent to Gul Bhanjyang by scaling a hill to a pass. You continue downhill from the pass to Kutumsang, where you will spend the night.
Day 4
Trek from Khutumsang (2,470m / 8,250ft) to Tharepati (3,690m / 11635ft)
After breakfast, we head north to get beautiful views of the snowy peaks ahead. We climb above on a steep trail through fir and rhododendron forests in an area where there are no permanent settlements. The jungles are luscious, dense, and blooming with Nepal’s national flower - the rhododendron. The trek continues to Yurin Danda, letting you enjoy magnificent views of the Himalayas. Shortly, we arrive at a few lodges at Magen Goth, which lies next to a meadow and provides fabulous mountain views. Hiking further, we arrive at Tharepati.
Day 5
Trek from Tharepati (3,690m / 11,635ft) to Tarke Ghyang (2,600m / 9,115ft)
The excursion you take today will be intriguing because you'll get to see other civilizations and way of living. This hike takes about five hours. In order to go to the intriguing Melamchi Village, we will first head eastward, off the slope, and descend. Guru Rinpoche has visited numerous holy Buddhist stupas, shrines, and monasteries in this village. This village is home to Sherpas, however they are not much different from the Sherpas living in Solu Khumbu to the east.
After that, we ascend to Tarke Ghyang while passing by a few Sherpa villages and taking in vistas of the Himalayan ranges. In Tarke Ghyang, one of the oldest and largest monasteries in this region, you will also see a historic monastery. The majority of the villagers are from the Hyolmo caste, hence the village's more well-known name of Helambu. Helambu is a colloquial name for the Tamang and Sherpa settlements that make up this region.
Day 6
Trek from Tarke Ghyang (2,600m / 9,115ft) to Sermanthang (2,590m / 8,715ft) back to Kathmandu
You should expect a pleasant trip because we won't be climbing too high. You will pass through thick forests, streams, and waterfalls on your way from Tarke Ghyang, which will make for some breathtaking scenery. Between Parachin and Gangyul, a Sherpa settlement, you will pass through a number of small villages while on your trip. You must continue walking from Gangyul to Sermanthang. There are many Buddhist monasteries in this lovely town. We'll board a bus from Sermanthang to Kathmandu that travels through Melamchi Bazaar. The beautiful path offers wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and agriculture as it briefly follows the Melamchi River.
